Gruenberg® Ships Vivarium Sterilizer to University

Posted: Sep 11, 2024

Gruenberg®, a leading industrial oven and sterilizer manufacturer, announced the shipment of a truck-in style Steri-Dry® vivarium sterilizer for use in a research lab at a university. The dry heat sterilizer will be used for the sterilization of lab animal cages. Factory cage sterility verifications were performed on the unit before shipment and after installation at the customer’s facility.

The maximum temperature rating of the sterilizer is 400° F. A horizontal airflow configuration uniformly distributes heat throughout the chamber and the continuously welded stainless-steel liner prevents any contaminants from entering the chamber. The unit is designed with a split line construction of seven (7) sections connected with interior joining flanges. This modular design allows for the sterilizer to easily be moved into the university without the need to make facility modifications even if there are architectural restrictions.

This Steri-Dry unit can accommodate two (2) 36” W x 42” D x 82” H customer supplied loading trucks and is designed for pass-through operation with multiple load/unload configurations. Compressed air purged shaft seals and inflatable gaskets mounted around each door plug ensure secure load processing. A viewing window is located on the face of each door and an interior door lock override cable in the chamber, when pulled, shuts down the system and unlocks the doors.

The control panel is UL508A certified and includes two operator interface terminals with Ethernet connectivity, data logging, recipe management capabilities, and advanced heater and fan circulation diagnostics. A panel-mounted thermal printer is used for event logging and dual 10" OIT screens with an Allen Bradley PLC provide ease of operation. The sterilizer is designed with two (2) dry contacts for integration with the customer’s building maintenance system. One of the contacts signals the maintenance system when the sterilizer is in cycle at low exhaust flow and the other alerts it when the sterilizer is in cooling at high exhaust flow.

“This Steri-Dry truck-in vivarium sterilizer utilizes zero leakage, pneumatically actuated, exhaust and intake dampers. This design completely closes the system for the VHP decontamination process.”
